Preparing STL Files

Your design must be a three dimensional solid object in order to output an STL file suitable for an SLA build. To save time and file size, export your STL file as a binary file. We strongly recommend you preview your final STL output. A free STL viewer is available at http://solidview.com.

Here are some guidelines that may help you prepare your STL files using various CAD packages:

ENGINEER 2001

  1. File > Save a Copy
  2. File Type > STL
  3. Set Chord Height to 0. Pro/Engineer 2001 will substitute a minimum acceptable value.
  4. Set Angle Control 1
  5. (OK)

Pro/ENGINEER 2001i2

  1. File>Export>Model
  2. STL
  3. Set Chord Height to 0. Pro/Engineer will substitute a minimum acceptable value.
  4. Set Angle Control 1
  5. (OK)

AutoCAD

  1. Set FacetRes = 10
  2. Use the STLOUT command to export your STL model.

SOLID WORKS 2001

  1. File > Save As > ( Save As type = STL)
  2. STL Options > set Quality = Fine

SOLID WORKS
